Shepherd and Sheep painting Bertram Poole

The Shepherd contemplates the valley through which the sheep must go and be led.  He is aware of the dangers the sheep will face.  He hopes they will trust Him and stick close to Him, listening to His voice and following Him as they navigate obstacles and dark places.  Wild beasts abound.  They can easily kill an unprotected sheep.  Once they pass through this valley they will be in a new age - a more spacious place, where a sheep can be a sheep without the danger of being eaten!
